Nearly half of physicians specializing in internal medicine would pick a different specialty if starting over

According to a Medscape survey of more than 17,000 clinicians across approximately 30 specialties that discussed salaries, challenges, and job satisfaction, 66% of internal medicine physicians said they would pick the same specialty again if starting over.

Orthopedic doctors, oncologists, and ophthalmologist were the most likely to stick to the same specialties with 97%, 96%, and 95%, respectively, saying they wouldn’t change specialties.

In addition to internal medicine, physicians in nephrology (69%) and family medicine (70%) were the least likely to pick the same specialty.
